A lot of experts are agreeing that the key to have a successful food diary is to be consistent and accurate. Having said that, what must be logged in it? Simply speaking, an effective food diary has to include:
What you eat?
Here, you have to jot down all the foods and beverages you’ve consumed and the way they are prepared. Make sure that you make it as specific and as thorough as possible whether if they’re fried, broiled, baked and so on. Also include condiments, sauces, toppings or dressings.
How much you’re eating?
For this one, be sure to list the amount you eat using household measures like tbsp, tsp, cups or ounces.
Whenever possible, better measure and weigh your food. If you’re away from your house, then try to do an estimate of every portion you eat.
When you eat?
Taking note of the time that you are eating can be so useful in figuring out the potential problematic time similar to late-night snacks. This will help you in making the necessary adjustments in your diet and the times you are eating to optimize it.
Logging in what else you are doing while eating, where you are eating and how do you feel while eating can be very useful in understanding some of your behavior and habits and also, get insights of your dieting.
